The steps to take a cosmetic product from an idea to a stable prototype. At each step you can pick suitable raw materials from the Latro catalog and get support from our team.
1. Need and concept
Clarify the product's purpose, target skin/hair type, sensory expectation (texture, feel) and positioning (natural, clinical, luxury). These decisions drive every subsequent raw-material choice.
2. Raw-material selection
Use the catalog's function, application and benefit filters to identify emulsifiers, actives, emollients, preservatives and sensory agents. Narrow down by natural content and certification criteria.
3. Phase design
Plan the water phase, oil phase and active/additive phase. Draft the emulsion type (O/W or W/O) and the percentage split of phases, balancing to a total of 100%.
4. Preservation and stability
Choose a broad-spectrum preservative system and add an antioxidant/chelator. Consider packaging compatibility, light and temperature sensitivity; plan stability early.
5. pH and compatibility
Target the pH range where the actives are effective and buffer if needed. Check compatibility between raw materials and with the preservative system (ionic charge, complexation).
6. Sampling and testing
Prepare a small-scale prototype and run sensory evaluation, centrifuge and accelerated stability (temperature cycling) tests. Request the relevant raw materials from the catalog for sampling.
7. Regulation and documentation
Collect the INCI, TDS and safety information for each raw material; verify compliance with the target market's regulations (permitted concentrations, labeling). Our team assists with technical documentation.
